As competitors start arriving anticipation is growing for the JWM next weekend. The forecast is for waves 3-6ft which has riders very excited. Great waves combined with great riders will make for some of the best bodyboarding the Jeff Wilcox Memorial and Australia has ever seen.
The JWM is one of the longest running independent bodyboarding competitions in Australia and will have a world class field competing. The best in the world combined with the best photographers and videographers in Australia will create pure magic to Honour the late Jeff Wilcox.
As well as showcasing the region and the sport of bodyboarding the Jeff Wilcox Memorial is about inspiring the next generation of youth. Jeff was an amazing bodyboarder, sportsman and ambassador for the Great Lakes. This event is built around his legacy with pride and passion for youth involved in sport and the community.
Some big named entertainers have enlisted to take on the challenge to become The Jeff Wilcox Memorial Champions. The newly crowned Australian Bodyboarding Champion Joseph Clarke, Junior Mens Australian Champion Simon Cassidy, Hawaiian Pipeline World Champion and multiple time Australian Champion Lilly Pollard, the past 3 yrs JWM Dropknee Champions Gary Thatcher, Grant Molony and Shane Griffiths are all ready to celebrate our sport in style and take on the challenge from a world class field which includes names like Lachlan Cramsie, Sam Bennett, Jase Finlay, Chris Deller, Shaun Peterson, Jones Russel, Mitch Rawlins, John Cruickshank and Lucas Brothers, James Bennett, Noah Gillroy, Jake Martin, Nicole Fleming, Gillett womens powerhouse and many more.
The question is will the local knowledge and back yard advantage take down some of the worlds best?
Locals like Adam Cheers, Thomas Donnelly, Eddie Read, Capilli brothers, Joel Cockeram, Grant Gardner, Jumanne Fredericks, Josh Aurisch, Jacob and Flynn Dunn, Jeremy Coombes, Jack Rogers, Vercoe twins and the return of previous world tour competitor Joshua Kirkman.
JWM is on the weekend of Friday 29th to Sunday 31st July, the event is a roaming event located in The Great Lakes NSW.
Youth Development is a huge part of the event, thanks to Homebase Youth Services whom have given us the tools to encouraging, inspiring and mentor youth throughout the event with the Inverted Bodyboard Team, Science Bodyboarding Australia Team, Lilly Pollard and Jase Finlay on deck to help shape the future.
